Fire Destroys Shops in Kano Market, Raises Safety Concerns

On Friday night, a fire engulfed a two-storey building at Babban Layi in the Yan Robobi section of Kano market, resulting in significant destruction of shops and storage facilities. The Kano State Fire Service, led by ACFO Saminu Abdullahi, received a distress call at 9:43 p.m. from Principal Fire Superintendent Usman Idris Fagge.

Firefighters from various stations, including Rijiyar Zaki, Sabon Gari, Government House, and Bompai, arrived to combat the flames. The fire, which originated from the upper floor, severely affected two shops on the ground floor, two on the first floor, six stores, and four temporary stores on the upper floor.

The affected buildings included Gidan Alhaji Sani, Gidan Sani Muhammad, Gidan Alhaji Kwa Kwa, Gidan Alhaji Shafi’u, and Gidan Alhaji Sulaiman. The fire was attributed to a solar system installed in the building.

Alhaji Sani Anas, Director of the Agency, urged traders and residents to adopt fire safety measures to prevent future incidents, as Kano has experienced multiple market fires this year.
