Fire Destroys 17 Shops in Lagos Market on July 21, 2026

On July 21, 2026, at 12:42 a.m., the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call regarding a fire at a market in Lagos. Emergency responders from the Ikorodu Fire Station were deployed and arrived at the scene by 12:54 a.m.

They found 17 out of approximately 30 containerised lock-up shops engulfed in flames, affecting a 648-square-metre section of the market, which spans about 1,944 square metres. Personnel from both the Ikorodu and Ijede Fire Stations worked together to contain and extinguish the fire, successfully preventing it from spreading to adjacent shops and properties.

Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported during the incident. The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is currently under investigation.
