APC Lawmaker Calls for National Assembly Shutdown Over Insecurity

During a plenary session, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), demanded drastic measures to combat the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, suggesting the National Assembly should be shut down. He described the current security situation as unacceptable and deeply disturbing, highlighting the scale of killings, kidnappings, and banditry across the country.

Doguwa urged lawmakers to take bold steps beyond mere debates, even proposing a declaration of a state of emergency if necessary. He expressed concern over the impact of insecurity on future elections, questioning the possibility of peaceful polls in 2027 amid ongoing violence.

Doguwa acknowledged the efforts of federal security agencies but insisted they were insufficient given the gravity of the crisis. He reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu's administration and emphasized the need for grassroots support and local security structures to address the challenges faced by communities, particularly in areas like southern Kano, which are increasingly unsafe.
