Siblings Buried Alive in Sokoto Excavation Collapse

On Wednesday morning, a tragic incident occurred in Sokoto when an excavation site collapsed, burying two siblings, Yahuza Ibrahim Mubarak Dandar, aged 11, and another child. They were reportedly at the site with other children, collecting laterite for home repairs ahead of the rainy season.

Eyewitnesses noted that the children were accompanied by an elder brother and were commonly using the site for building materials. At around 10:00 AM, while digging, the excavation heap suddenly collapsed, burying the children under the soil.

Initially, there was no immediate realization of the incident, and the rush to rescue them was too late. The bodies of the children were later recovered and buried according to Islamic rites.

Alhaji Alu Usha Boyekai confirmed the incident and disclosed that two other children involved in the rescue were receiving medical treatment for various degrees of injury. This incident has renewed concerns about the safety of excavation activities in the area, particularly among children, recalling a similar tragedy from the previous year.
