Delta Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup 2026 Launch Announced

Sheriff Mulade, a peace advocate and environmental activist, unveiled the Delta Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup 2026, a football tournament aimed at fostering inter-ethnic harmony and preventing conflict among communities in Delta State. The tournament, organized by the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) in collaboration with the Africa 4 Peace Sports Academy, is set to commence on November 16, coinciding with the International Day for Tolerance.

This biennial event expands upon the previous Ijaw/Itsekiri Peace and Unity Football Tournament, evolving into a six-way contest featuring teams from the Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko, Ika, Ndokwa, and Urhobo nationalities. Mulade stated that the tournament promotes peaceful coexistence, talent discovery, youth empowerment through sports, and socio-economic development.

The initiative aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 16, focusing on peace, justice, and strong institutions. The 2026 edition is expected to attract community leaders, government officials, and corporate organizations, with organizers seeking support from various stakeholders.
