Sokoto PDP Rejects Dissolution, Asserts Executive Legitimacy

The Sokoto State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has officially rejected the dissolution of its state executive committee, which was announced by the party's national headquarters. In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the party's national public secretary, the PDP described the dissolution as unconstitutional and lacking legal basis.

The national party had confirmed the appointment of a 15-member caretaker committee, led by Hayatu Tafida as chairman and Ahm S. Pawa as secretary, to oversee party affairs in the state.

In response, Sokoto State PDP chairman Bello Goronyo dismissed the dissolution as illegal, arguing that it violates the party's constitution. He stated that an elected executive cannot simply be dissolved in such a manner and emphasized that the court of law is the proper authority for such actions.

Goronyo reaffirmed the legitimacy of the Sokoto State PDP leadership amid ongoing leadership disputes at the national level, noting that the Supreme Court's outcomes do not affect the tenure of the state executive.
