Sokoto State Invests N6bn in Water and Solar Projects

Sokoto State has announced a N6 billion investment for the rehabilitation of water facilities and the installation of solar power systems. Alhaji Aminu Muhammad Dodo Iya, during a press briefing, revealed that the project will include the installation of 10,000 solar panels to enhance the state’s water supply and address chronic power supply issues.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy by the current administration, led by Dr. Ahmadu Aliyu, to tackle long-standing water shortages that have plagued the region for over four decades, largely due to neglect by previous administrations.

The project will provide 4.2 megawatts of power to the Sokoto State Water Board, enabling the operation of essential pumping machinery. Additionally, the administration plans to drill 31 solar-powered boreholes and rehabilitate 60 malfunctioning water facilities to ensure a consistent supply of potable water across urban and rural areas.

The goal is to guarantee 24-hour access to drinking water for residents.
