Fani-Kayode Demands Justice for Murdered Nigerians in SA

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister, has called for justice following the murders of Bishop Michael Taiwo Fakunle and James Uchechukwu Nwankwo in South Africa. Fakunle was shot dead at his home in Kensington, Johannesburg, on September 4, while Nwankwo died on September 5 during an incident involving the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Fani-Kayode expressed his shock at both killings, noting that Fakunle had received threats prior to his murder. He stated that these two men were the seventh and eighth Nigerians killed in South Africa in 2023, with four of these deaths allegedly involving SAPS officers.

He highlighted that over 100 Nigerian nationals have been killed in South Africa from 2022 to September 2023, with more than 30 deaths attributed to police and military forces. Fani-Kayode criticized the lack of accountability for these crimes and urged the South African government to enhance protections for Nigerians and prosecute those responsible for the violence.
