COSEYL Demands Protection for Peter Obi Amid Threats

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex socio-political youth organization in the South East geopolitical zone, has expressed alarm over alleged threats and harassment against Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). In a statement signed by President General Comrade Goodluck Ibem, COSEYL called on security agencies to ensure Obi's safety and uphold the constitutional rights of all political actors as the 2027 general elections approach.

The coalition emphasized that every Nigerian meeting constitutional requirements has the right to contest for office without intimidation. They noted that reports indicating Obi fears for his safety should not be overlooked.

COSEYL referenced the 1999 Constitution, highlighting that every citizen is entitled to protection and that political competition should be based on ideas rather than intimidation. They warned that any attack on Obi would undermine Nigeria's democracy and public confidence in the electoral process.
