NDC-POSN Demands Protection for Peter Obi Ahead of 2027

The NDC-POSN has expressed serious concerns regarding the safety of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, spokesperson Merci L. Akum highlighted the group's alarm over recent comments made by Obi during an interview, where he expressed fears for his safety and political future.

The group claims that Obi has been subjected to persistent harassment, including an incident at an airport where his vehicle was locked, which they allege is part of a deliberate government action to frustrate his political activities. NDC-POSN condemned these actions as attempts to undermine democracy and called on federal security agencies to conduct a transparent investigation into these allegations.

They urged the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to provide adequate security for Obi and other political actors, emphasizing the need to uphold human rights and the rule of law as the country approaches the elections.
