South-West Youths Demand Greater Governance Role

On Thursday, youth leaders and political stakeholders from the South-West region of Nigeria convened a leadership and engagement programme at the Lagos Television premises in Ikeja, Lagos, to advocate for greater involvement of young people in governance as the 2027 elections approach. The event was organized by Adesuyi Daramola, the South-West Zonal Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress.

Discussions centered on leadership development, political participation, capacity building, and grassroots mobilization. Daramola emphasized that youth leadership should extend beyond mere attendance and mobilization, advocating for capacity, responsibility, participation, ownership, and measurable political action.

He acknowledged Seyi Tinubu’s efforts to promote youth participation in governance and recognized the contributions of Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, and Dr Dayo Israel, the APC National Youth Leader, towards youth development. Alabi Opeyemi, a member of the planning committee, noted that the meeting allowed young political actors to discuss their roles in the political process.
