Southern Europe Wildfires Intensify as Heatwave Soars Over 40°C

A relentless heatwave in southern Europe has intensified, sparking deadly wildfires and pushing temperatures over 40°C. Thousands have been forced to flee their homes as flames engulf parts of Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Greece, and the Balkans.

A red heat alert has been issued, warning of severe health risks. Wildfires have erupted across the region, with Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez urging extreme caution due to the high forest fire risk.

In Portugal, three major wildfires are being battled, with neighboring Morocco sending reinforcements. Italy has issued a red heat alert for 16 cities, and tragedy struck in Romania as a boy died from heatstroke.

France, Greece, and Turkey are also facing wildfires, with the UK on alert for a heatwave. Experts attribute the extreme weather to global warming, making Mediterranean summers hotter and drier, leading to longer wildfire seasons and more destructive blazes.
