Sowore Claims More Arrests Under Tinubu Than Military Era

Omoyele Sowore, a prominent activist, stated that he has faced more arrests under President Bola Tinubu than during the military regime in Nigeria. He made these comments during an interview, reflecting on his experiences of detention and treatment by security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS).

Sowore recounted his history of arrests from 1989 to 1996, including his time as a National Youth Service Corps member in Yola, where he was detained without a court order. He emphasized that despite the transition to civilian rule, he has spent a longer time in custody and has faced severe mistreatment, including torture and restrictions in Abuja.

Sowore pointed out that his passport was seized, illustrating the continuity of oppressive tactics from military to civilian governance, asserting that the change in uniform does not equate to a change in conduct.
