Speaker Abbas Advocates for NIS Reforms in Sports Education

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas expressed support for ongoing reforms at the National Institute for Sports, led by Director General Philip Shaibu. The reforms aim to decentralize sports education and coaching development across Nigeria.

Abbas commended the establishment of a zonal center in Kaduna, describing it as a significant step towards improving access to quality coaching education. He announced the sponsorship of 20 coaches from Kaduna State for professional training at the National Institute for Sports, pledging to increase the number of beneficiaries to 25 annually.

This initiative is designed to strengthen grassroots sports development and ensure that coaching certification is no longer concentrated in a single location. Abbas emphasized the importance of training coaches in producing elite athletes capable of competing successfully at national and international levels.

Shaibu expressed gratitude for Abbas's support, which he believes will motivate the institute to expand its programs and enhance the quality of coaching education nationwide.
