NBA-SPIDEL Assists Inmates at Port Harcourt Custodial Centre

The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest Litigation and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) conducted a visit to the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to identify inmates in need of legal assistance. The delegation was led by Chairperson Prof Uju Agomoh and received by the Controller of Corrections, Rivers State Command, CC RM Williams, FCAI.

During the visit, the legal team interacted with inmates, addressing their legal challenges and issues related to their continued detention. They requested a list of inmates eligible for fines and those needing legal intervention, particularly for bail applications.

NBA-SPIDEL assured the inmates that their cases would be reviewed, and appropriate legal actions would be taken to assist deserving individuals. Additionally, the team expressed a commitment to enhancing inmates' welfare by providing basic items to meet some of their needs within the facility.

CC RM Williams commended NBA-SPIDEL for their intervention, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with legal professionals to improve access to justice and support the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates.
