MTN Lauded for Supporting Young Athletes in Nigeria

The Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) has praised MTN for its significant role in discovering and nurturing young athletic talent during the recently concluded MTN Championship Season 4, held at the U.J. Esuene Sports Stadium in Calabar, Cross River State.

The event attracted 1,000 athletes from 120 schools across states including Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Abia, and Delta, featuring competitions in cadet, youth, junior, and senior categories. Pastor Emmanuel Ebong, Vice President of NSSF, highlighted MTN's provision of a positive platform for engaging school children meaningfully, stating that many children have been positively impacted through this initiative.

He noted that talent identified through the MTN Championship has been groomed at the Academy in Lagos, with 30 athletes supported over the first three seasons. Ebong emphasized the long-term impact of the competition, mentioning that athletes discovered in earlier seasons have represented Nigeria internationally, including at the first African School Sport Festival hosted in Nigeria in August last year.
