SSANU Demands Immediate Payment of Delayed Salaries

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), led by President Mohammed Ibrahim, has raised alarms regarding the delayed payment of February 2026 salaries for staff in federal universities. In a statement issued on Thursday, the union warned that this delay is causing significant financial strain on university employees and adversely affecting their morale and productivity.

SSANU highlighted that the situation is creating hardship for workers and their families across the country. The union criticized the government's inconsistent salary payment system, particularly noting issues with the GIFMIS Remita platform, which has led to uncertainty and inefficiency in salary disbursement.

SSANU urged the federal government to adopt the Remita platform for seamless salary payments and called for an urgent resolution to ensure immediate payment of outstanding salaries. The union also expressed concern over the slow pace of ongoing renegotiations with the federal government regarding non-teaching staff unions, including SSANU, and emphasized the need for stronger commitment from the Minister of Education to achieve a satisfactory outcome.
