Stakeholders Drum Support for Osun Over Withheld LGA Funds

Stakeholders, including the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Senior Advocates of Nigeria, civil society groups, traditional rulers, and indigenous religion worshippers, are rallying behind Osun State government in its battle against the Federal Government over withheld local government funds. The NBA has threatened to sue the government, arguing that the state government has the exclusive right to control local government councils, as per a previous court ruling.

The NBA emphasized that withholding the funds is unconstitutional, unlawful, and a dangerous affront to the rule of law. Two Senior Advocates of Nigeria supported the NBA's stance and called on the Federal Government to release the funds.

The stalemate over the funds dates back to October 2022, and despite legal battles, the issue remains unresolved. Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for the release of the funds, asserting the state's rightful claim to the allocation.
