Nigeria Launches Roadmap for Cashew Value Chain Growth

On Thursday, stakeholders across Nigeria unveiled a strategic roadmap aimed at industrializing the country through the cashew value chain. This initiative, discussed during the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) and the African Cashew Alliance (ACA), seeks to enhance agro-industrialization and diversify the economy, increasing non-oil exports worth billions of dollars.

The roadmap outlines policy strategies from 2026 to 2035, focusing on strengthening domestic processing and improving farmer incomes, positioning Nigeria competitively in the global cashew trade. Chief Ademola Adesokan, the National President of NCAN, emphasized the roadmap's importance for Nigeria's economic future.

Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment (FMITI), expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the need for sustained collaboration among relevant stakeholders for long-term growth.

The plan includes the distribution of 500 million improved cashew seedlings by 2026, with a target of five million seedlings distributed annually in Kogi State.
