National Assembly Resumes to Address State Police Bill

The National Assembly resumed on September 29, 2026, after an extended recess that began on July 23, 2026. The Senate Spokesman, Senator Yomi Adaramodu, announced that the primary focus will be the final passage of the State Police Bill, which has been sent to state Houses of Assembly.

Several states have already approved the bill, which requires concurrence from at least 24 of the 36 state assemblies for final passage. Adaramodu expressed confidence that the bill would be passed by the 10th Assembly before its tenure ends in June 2027.

Additionally, lawmakers are awaiting the presentation of the 2027 Appropriation Bill from the President, with legislative work set to commence immediately upon its arrival. The Assembly will also prioritize discussions on local government election administration and security issues, including ongoing intelligence operations and counter-insurgency efforts in the North.
