CCC Advocates for State Police to Enhance Security Framework

The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has reiterated its support for the establishment of state police as part of broader security sector reforms to address Nigeria's pressing security challenges. During a press briefing in Abuja, CCC Chairman Maj Gen Chris Olukolade (rtd) highlighted the necessity of a constitutional legal framework to implement state police without unnecessary delays.

He called for robust safeguards to ensure professionalism and protect the system against abuse, considering the growing public consensus on the need for state police. The CCC condemned the trend of political actors weaponizing ethnic and religious identities for political gain, warning that such divisive narratives undermine national unity.

The organization urged political leaders to promote national cohesion rather than exploit existing fault lines for partisan interests. Furthermore, the CCC called on federal government security agencies to prioritize specialized training and capacity building to improve response times during kidnapping incidents and advised the media and public to refrain from sensationalizing security operations.
