Nigerians Urged to Submit Memoranda for State Policing

The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) has urged Nigerians to actively participate in the reform of the nation’s security architecture by submitting memoranda and policy proposals for the establishment of state policing. This call follows an invitation from the Presidential Working Group on the proposed National Policing Bill, allowing public contributions to create a comprehensive legal and operational framework for state-led law enforcement.

In a statement signed by CCAN Chairman Festus Fifen and Secretary Peter Ireh in Abuja, the association highlighted the importance of citizen engagement in the legislative process. They stated that establishing state police is essential for addressing Nigeria's evolving security challenges.

The CCAN emphasized that the reform must be community-driven and inclusive, urging all Nigerians, including legal experts and civil society organizations, to submit their memoranda within the stipulated period. They also called for transparency in the process and the consideration of all constructive inputs in the final draft of the bill.
