Benu State Governor Alia Advocates for State Police Control

On Tuesday, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benu State expressed full support for the establishment of state police, asserting that governors must control the security structure within their states. This declaration was made during the flag-off of a training program for 300 personnel of the Benu State Civil Protection Guard, held at the Kukah Centre in collaboration with the state government.

The training aims to strengthen the capacity of the BSCPG to effectively deliver on its mandate. Deputy Governor Sam Od and Chief Security Officer Joseph Har were present, highlighting the urgency of establishing a state police framework.

Alia noted that Benu State has already trained 5,000 personnel in security matters, emphasizing the need for a robust local response to security issues. He stated that the establishment of state police is essential for effective governance and security management, and he called for a legal framework to support this initiative, which he believes is crucial for self-determination in security matters.
