Executive Bill on State Policing to Reach Tinubu Next Month

Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu and Chairman of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, announced that an Executive Bill regarding state policing will be submitted to President Tinubu next month for transmission to the National Assembly. This announcement was made during a media briefing following a meeting of the Presidential Working Group.

Gbajabiamila also revealed the establishment of a Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) led by Honourable Justice Mohamed Abulai Liman, which will include members from security agencies, academia, the judiciary, and public policy experts. The PAC's role is to provide oversight and validate the bill's supporting materials.

A nationwide consultation will occur before the President's final approval of the Executive Bill, which is scheduled for presentation on September 3. The National Policing Bill aims to address various operational issues, including recruitment, training, funding, and inter-agency cooperation, while ensuring safeguards against potential misuse by state governors.
