Oluremi Tinubu to Preach at Lambeth Palace During UK Visit

Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, is scheduled to deliver a sermon at Lambeth Palace in London on Thursday, marking a significant highlight of Nigeria's first state visit to the United Kingdom in almost four decades. The last Nigerian state visit to the UK occurred in 1989.

Oluremi Tinubu, alongside her husband, President Bola Tinubu, arrived at Stansted Airport on Tuesday to commence high-level diplomatic engagements. The official itinerary includes a meeting with representatives of the Church of England and a scheduled meeting with King Charles III on Wednesday, along with Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

The royal engagements will feature a visit to Windsor and a state banquet later that evening at Windsor Castle. This visit underscores the long-standing diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the UK, with discussions expected to focus on trade, security, and infrastructure development, particularly the British-backed Nigerian port renovation project.

The state visit comes amid heightened security concerns in Nigeria, prompting President Tinubu to direct security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations aimed at stabilizing the region. Additionally, President Tinubu is scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and members of the Nigerian diaspora in the UK.
