Tinubu Urges Governors to Focus on Road Networks

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu urged state governors to cease the construction of flyovers in low-traffic areas and instead invest their significantly increased federal allocations into road networks that would enhance living standards and improve access for security agencies. This statement was made during a meeting with traditional rulers from Oyo State, led by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who congratulated Tinubu on the successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area after 56 days in captivity.

Tinubu noted that states are now receiving four to five times their previous allocations from the Federation Account. He reiterated that his administration would not negotiate with terrorists or pay ransoms for rescues, highlighting that the terrorists had demanded the release of their jailed members alongside ransom.

He commended the security forces for their role in the rescue operation and stated that the expansion of the Army from eight to twelve divisions was a direct response to the abductions crisis.
