Forum Urges Halt to Cadet Disenrollment at Maritime Academy

The Concerned South-South Integration Forum has called on the Marine Minister, Adegboyega Oyetola, to intervene and stop the proposed mass disenrollment of about 100 cadets from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, due to poor academic performance. The forum, represented by its president Initeng Ibongha and secretary Jackbrown Whiteh, expressed concerns over the potential psychological, emotional, and financial consequences for the students and their parents.

They argued that the decision to disenroll students should be paused pending a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the students' academic records and the procedures adopted by the institution. The forum emphasized the importance of due process, including fair hearings and the establishment of academic remediation opportunities.

They warned that a hasty approach could damage the institution's reputation and called for an independent investigation into the matter. The forum insists that the Maritime Academy of Nigeria must uphold international maritime training standards while ensuring that struggling students are given a chance to improve their performance.
