Strike grounds Taraba Govt offices as NLC, TUC begin indefinite action

The Taraba State government offices have been brought to a standstill as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) commenced an indefinite industrial strike. The strike began at midnight on Monday, August 11, 2025, following a joint declaration by the leadership of the two unions after a State Executive Council meeting.

The strike was in response to alleged irregularities in the activities of the Biometric Data Capture Committee set up by the state government. The NLC and TUC instructed their affiliate branches to mobilize and establish strike implementation committees to ensure full compliance.

The unions accused the government of ignoring their ultimatum and failing to address the demands of the workers. While the government has not issued an official statement on the matter, operations across the state remain paralyzed, with noticeable disruptions in the state capital, Jalingo.
