Sunderland Condemns Racist Abuse of Brian Brobbey

Sunderland condemned the racist abuse directed at forward Brian Brobbey on social media after their 1-0 Premier League win. The club highlighted the unacceptable frequency of such behavior, reporting the abuse to the Premier League and police, who are expected to take swift action against those responsible.

Brobbey is among four players, including teammates Romain Mundl and Lutsharel Geertruida, who faced racist abuse during the season. The incidents were reported to have occurred during a match in February, with the Premier League's anti-discrimination protocol being invoked.

Sunderland's statement expressed unwavering support for Brobbey and condemned online racism, asserting that there is no place for such behavior in football or society. The UK Football Police Unit is investigating the incidents, which have seen a reported increase in online abuse, with 2,000 extreme posts identified, including threats against players and managers.
