Liverpool Condemns Racist Abuse of Konate After Match

Liverpool FC issued a condemnation of the racist abuse aimed at defender Ibrahima Konate after a Champions League match against Galatasaray on Wednesday. The incident occurred when Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was injured in a challenge from Konate, resulting in Osimhen being withdrawn at halftime and later diagnosed with a fractured forearm.

The backlash against Konate sparked a strong response from Liverpool, who confirmed that steps would be taken to identify those responsible for the abuse. This incident reignited concerns about online abuse in football, particularly as it followed a recent police investigation into racial abuse targeting four Premier League players.

During the match, Konate continued to play until halftime, after which he was replaced by Leroy Sane due to the injury to Osimhen. Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk criticized referee Pawel Raczkowski regarding the incident.

Liverpool progressed with a 4-1 aggregate win.
