Ex-Man United Striker Hoogewerf Aims to Play for Nigeria

Dillon Hoogewerf, a 23-year-old former youth player for Manchester United, has expressed his intention to play for Nigeria's national football team rather than the Netherlands. Hoogewerf, who was born in Almer, has previously represented the Netherlands at various youth levels, including U15 and U16, and participated in the European U17 Championship qualifying match against Kosovo in October 2019.

He has visited Nigeria multiple times, which has influenced his loyalty towards the Nigerian national team. Hoogewerf believes that playing for Nigeria would allow him to contribute positively to the people and feels a cultural connection to Africa, stating that "Africa is so good for football." He aims to reconnect with Nigeria's football scene and perform at a higher level, especially after experiencing the impact of COVID-19 on his career while playing for the Dutch youth team.
