Suspect Arrested After Vandalising Enugu Transformer

On August 17, 2023, Nnaji Chidiebere, a 23-year-old suspect, was arrested by the Enugu State Police Command after he suffered severe burns while allegedly attempting to vandalise a power transformer along Ogbaike Road in Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area. The incident caused panic among local residents, who discovered Chidiebere trapped inside the transformer enclosure and promptly alerted the police.

Police officers from the Udenu Division responded quickly, finding him unconscious at the scene. He was evacuated to a nearby medical facility for resuscitation and later transferred to a specialist hospital for intensive care.

Upon regaining consciousness, Chidiebere claimed he acted alone, but preliminary investigations have linked him to ongoing transformer vandalism in the area. Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, commended the Obollo-Afor community for their vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement, emphasizing the command's commitment to protecting public utility infrastructure.
