Armed Drug Traffickers Attack Customs Officer in Ogun State, Nigeria

Suspected armed drug traffickers launched an attack on a Customs officer in Ogun State, Nigeria. The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command in Idiroko confirmed the incident.

The attack occurred during an interception operation involving a 12-tyre truck suspected of conveying a large consignment of illicit drugs and prohibited items. Two Customs personnel sustained critical injuries during the attack, which involved a large number of armed assailants.

Reinforcement teams were deployed to the scene, leading to a confrontation where shots were fired, and the smugglers fled the scene. Investigations have commenced to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack.

Deputi Comptroller Olukayode Afeni condemned the violent act and reaffirmed the commitment of the Customs Service to combat smuggling and ensure national security.
