Suspected Smugglers Attack Customs Patrol Team in Ogun State, Nigeria

In Ogun State, Nigeria, suspected smugglers attacked a customs patrol team in the Akokoro area of Iwoye-Imeko Afon Local Government Area. The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command in Idiroko confirmed the attack.

The spokesperson, Zakaria Chado, stated that the attack took place on a Thursday at 4:00 pm. The smugglers, armed with weapons, launched a coordinated attack on the patrol team, leading to a heavy exchange of fire.

Two customs officers sustained gunshot injuries and are in critical condition. The customs service condemned the attack, emphasizing its commitment to border security and public health enforcement.

The Area Controller, Olukayode Afeni, warned perpetrators of facing the full weight of the law and assured residents of safety. Investigations have commenced to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack.
