Armed Herders Kill Four in Benue Community Attack

On Monday, suspected armed herders attacked the Abaushwa community in Nzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, resulting in the deaths of four individuals. The attack occurred around midnight when the assailants invaded homes, killing residents while they slept.

A local resident, identified as Atoundo, stated that the attack was unprovoked, with attackers forcing open doors to murder victims inside their houses. Initially, three people were reported killed, but one of the injured later died, raising the death toll to four.

Dr Frank Kyungun, a former Executive Secretary of the Benue State Teaching Service Board, condemned the violence as unprovoked. Guma Local Government Area Chairman Morris Orwough confirmed the attack and stated that security personnel had been deployed to restore peace.

The Benue State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondona, confirmed the fatalities and indicated that investigations were ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
