Ten Killed in Midnight Attack in Benue Community

A tragic incident occurred in a community in Benue, where at least 10 individuals were killed during a midnight attack. Residents were reportedly fast asleep when they were awakened by gunshots, leading to a chaotic scene as people sought safety.

The injured were taken to NKST Hospital for treatment. Justin Shaku, the chairman of Katsina Ala LGA, confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi, although he had just arrived in the community to assess the situation.

Tension remains high in the area. Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the attack, describing it as a senseless and cowardly assault on innocent citizens.

In a statement from his chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor alleged that the attackers were terrorists masquerading as herdsmen, aiming to disrupt agricultural activities and food production in the state. Alia extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery, assuring residents of the administration's commitment to protecting lives and property.

He directed security agencies to deploy additional personnel to the area and urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious movements.
