Four Killed in Armed Herdsmen Attack in Benue State

On Thursday, a violent attack by suspected armed herdsmen in Kwand Local Government Area, Benue State, resulted in the deaths of at least four individuals. The incident began around 3:20 PM, where two farmers, identified as Asongo Nagweb and Tarzan Agbahegh, were killed.

Another victim, Mr. Lawrence Akerigba, sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to a hospital in Jato Aka for treatment but was later transferred to Makurdi on Thursday night, where he succumbed to his injuries, raising the death toll to three.

Following the initial attack, it was reported that the assailants returned on Friday morning, blocking the road at Kyoawen Junction and opening fire on passing vehicles, resulting in additional casualties. The total number of casualties from this latest attack has not been independently verified at the time of reporting.

Local authorities have been urged to deploy security personnel to the area to protect residents and prevent further violence. Police spokesperson Udem Edet has not yet provided a report on the situation.
