Suspected Vandal Dies Crushed Under Collapsed Tower in Delta

The Transmission Company of Nigeria discovered the body of a suspected vandal on Saturday, August 8, 2026, pinned beneath the wreckage of a collapsed transmission tower in Delta State. The discovery came during routine maintenance work by TCN's Delta Sub-Region Lines Maintenance Department, which had been dispatched to investigate a fault that had caused the Ughelli-Benin 330kV transmission line to trip offline.

TCN technicians traced the electrical fault to Tower 101, which investigators found had been structurally compromised and subsequently collapsed. The body of the suspected vandal was recovered from beneath the tower's metal members, indicating the person had likely been present during or immediately before the structure's failure.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has not released additional details about the circumstances leading to the tower's collapse, the identity of the deceased, or the extent of damage to the transmission line.
