Akwa Ibom Village Head Faces Jail for Alleged Terror Acts

The suspended village head of Ikot Umo Essien in Akwa Ibom State, Chief Mondai Benjamin Esu, is facing potential jail time for his alleged involvement in gangsterism, cultism, and violent crimes within the community. The Akwa Ibom State Government suspended Chief Esu for six months to allow for a thorough investigation into various allegations against him, including sponsoring criminal activities like vandalism and theft.

The incidents also involved the destruction of public assets, such as a local market and constituency project facilities. The state government has initiated fact-finding missions to assess the extent of the damages caused by these criminal activities.
