SWAN Congress in Kaduna Highlights Membership Growth

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) commenced its 2026 National Triennial Delegates Congress in Kaduna from August 27 to August 29, 2026. The outgoing National Executive Committee, led by National President Mr Isaiah K. Benjamin, presented a report detailing significant achievements over their three-year tenure.

Key accomplishments included the expansion of membership, successful chapter elections, improved administration, and enhanced international partnerships. The administration addressed divisions from the 2023 elections by focusing on reconciliation and stability.

More than 30 states achieved chapter status and conducted elections, while a central digital database improved membership registration. The report also noted progress in resolving disputes in various chapters and strengthened relationships with AIPS and CAF, aiding Nigerian sports journalists with logistical challenges during major competitions.

The congress serves as a platform for delegates to evaluate progress and strategize for the future, with calls for unity and professionalism emphasized by Mr Benjamin and Secretary-General Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo.
