Tanker Explosion on Enugu-Onitsha Expressway Strands Commuters

On Tuesday night, around 10 PM, a petroleum-laden tanker lost control and exploded along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, specifically in the Ugwu Onyeama area. The explosion caused significant panic among motorists, leading them to seek alternative routes.

Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, and the swift response from the Enugu State Fire Service, led by Chief Okwudili Ohaa, played a crucial role in preventing further damage. Firefighters worked diligently to control the inferno and extinguish the flames, protecting nearby vegetation in the Iva Valley community.

Following the successful clearance of the scene, normal traffic resumed on the affected section of the expressway. The driver of the tanker sustained injuries and was evacuated to a nearby hospital.

The Federal Road Safety Corps was also involved in managing the situation.
