Tanzania Removes Visa Restrictions for Nigerian Travelers

The Tanzania Immigration Services Department announced on September 25, 2026, that Nigerian nationals will no longer need special immigration clearance before applying for visas, following Nigeria's removal from the Referred Visa Category. This change took effect immediately and was communicated via a notice signed by Chief Spokesperson ACI Paul Mselle.

Under the previous arrangement, Nigerian travellers had to obtain approval from the Office of the Commissioner General of Immigration and submit applications at least two months prior to travel. Now, they can apply through the official immigration online portal or at designated entry points.

Although this change simplifies the process, Nigerian travellers are still required to obtain visas, as Tanzania's visa-free list does not include Nigeria. The standard visa application is processed within 10 days, and applicants must have passports valid for at least six months and present a return ticket upon arrival.

The fee for an Ordinary Visa is $50, valid for up to 90 days.
