Taraba Lawmaker Refutes Extortion Claims by Monarch

Hon. Joseph Kannoh Kassong, representing Yorro State Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, has dismissed allegations made by Mumuye Traditional Ruler Alhaji Ado Adamu Mazang II regarding extortion and questions about his identity as baseless.

In an interview in Jalingo on Monday, Kassong stated he would not be intimidated by any traditional institution and emphasized his commitment to supporting Governor Agbu Kefas's administration. He expressed shock that a respected monarch would make such allegations, which he believes could create confusion and undermine governance.

Kassong alleged that the traditional ruler's opposition to new districts in Yorro Local Government Area was due to fears of losing power and financial benefits. He claimed that his office received complaints about the Mumuye Chiefdom Palace, including reports of money being collected from residents for promised elevations to Third Class Chiefs, which he stated had no official backing from the governor.

Kassong also noted that district heads were not receiving regular salaries despite government releases.
