Nigeria Launches Tax Ombud Office to Boost Trust

On May 18, 2026, in Abuja, the Nigerian Information Minister, Mohammed Idris, unveiled the official website and launched a toll-free call center for the newly established Tax Ombud Office. This initiative is a significant milestone in strengthening public trust and improving access to Nigeria's tax administration system.

The launch aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness in tax administration. Minister Idris highlighted that the Tax Ombud Office will serve as a bridge between taxpayers and tax authorities, ensuring that Nigerians can access professional complaint resolution mechanisms.

He stressed the need for civic education to promote voluntary tax compliance and warned that misinformation can undermine reform efforts. The event was attended by key figures, including Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance, and Didi Esther Walson Jack, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Tax Ombud Office.
