Tax Ombud to Enhance Revenue Authority Collaboration

Dr. John Nwabueze, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tax Ombud, emphasized the importance of collaboration with revenue authorities to improve operational efficiency in a press statement issued by Chief Press Secretary Chukwudi Achif.

This announcement was made during the 159th meeting of the Joint Revenue Board held in Lagos, which comprises revenue boards from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Dr.

Nwabueze discussed the role of the Tax Ombud in facilitating dispute resolution and strengthening trust in the tax system amidst emerging tax reforms. He clarified that the Tax Ombud serves as an independent and impartial body that protects taxpayer rights and promotes justice in tax administration.

The office aims to bridge the gap between taxpayers and revenue authorities, providing a platform for resolving complaints through mediation and conciliation. Dr.

Nwabueze noted that while the Tax Ombud does not determine tax liabilities or replace courts, it plays a critical role in identifying recurring issues and recommending reforms to enhance efficiency and transparency in tax administration.
