Tax Ombud Calls for Media Support on Taxpayer Rights

Dr. John Nwabueze, the Chief Executive Officer of the Office of the Tax Ombud, highlighted the critical role of the media in educating Nigerians about fiscal reforms and taxpayer rights during a press briefing in Lagos.

He urged journalists to assist in informing the public about the processes for filing complaints and grievances related to tax matters, ensuring easy access to the services of the Tax Ombud without cost. Nwabueze's office recently unveiled a website and a toll-free call center to facilitate this access.

He emphasized that the Office of the Tax Ombud is an independent and impartial body aimed at protecting taxpayer rights, resolving grievances, and promoting fair tax administration. Nwabueze commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership in transforming tax reform, which he described as essential for sustainable revenue growth and economic prosperity.

He clarified that the office does not determine tax liabilities or replace tax appeal tribunals but ensures that tax administration is conducted fairly and transparently.
