FCT Dispatch Riders Protest Against Multiple Taxation

Dispatch riders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) staged a peaceful protest on Thursday, urging Minister Nyesom Wike to intervene in what they describe as unbearable multiple taxation. According to Mr.

Olawal Ilesanmi, a spokesperson for the riders, they are not opposed to paying taxes but are struggling with the increasing financial burden imposed by various local councils. Riders report paying an annual tax of N13,000 to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and additional fees to Bwari and Gwagwalada area councils.

Recently, new revenue collectors have emerged, demanding N25,000 under the name of the FCT administration, which is significantly higher than the previous fees. Additionally, motorcyclists face impounding of their bikes unless they pay this new fee.

The riders are calling for an end to what they allege are unlawful tax practices and are seeking clarity on their statutory obligations.
