TCN Enhances National Grid with New Transmission Lines

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully commissioned new transmission lines aimed at strengthening the national grid. The project includes the Ihovbor-Benin and Ihovbor-Ajaokuta 330kV transmission lines, which were commissioned on April 23, 2026.

According to Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, these lines will enhance power evacuation capacity for the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and the Azura Power Plant. The Ihovbor-Benin line currently carries 200 megawatts, while the Ihovbor-Ajaokuta line transmits approximately 90 megawatts.

TCN anticipates that this new infrastructure will improve the reliability of electricity supply, reduce transmission constraints in the corridor, and strengthen overall grid performance. This development aligns with ongoing efforts to expand and modernize Nigeria's transmission infrastructure to support the growing demand for electricity.
