TCN Declares Force Majeure After Tower Collapse in Kebbi

On August 28, 2026, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) declared force majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey transmission line following the collapse of three transmission towers (T109, T110, and T111) at Chibike Village in Kebbi State. The incident occurred due to heavy rainfall and a windstorm, disrupting the bulk electricity transmission to Niger Republic.

The Birnin Kebbi–Niamey line tripped at approximately 5:38 pm on August 26, 2026. TCN attempted a trial reclosure at 6:03 pm, but the line tripped again, indicating an unresolved fault.

Upon conducting a fault-finding patrol, TCN discovered the collapsed towers, which hindered the power supply arrangement between Nigeria and Niger. TCN has mobilized personnel and resources to the site to rehabilitate the towers and restore the transmission line to service promptly.

The company apologized for the disruption and assured customers in Niamey that efforts are being made to restore normal power transmission as quickly as possible.
