TCN Grants Access for Kainji Substation Expansion Project

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has formally granted Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL) access to the Kainji hydro power plant site in Niger State for the construction of two 330kV bays. The handover took place on June 5, 2026, as stated by TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.

The construction project, which includes civil, electrical, and mechanical work, aims to facilitate the evacuation of power generated by two additional turbines (IG3 and IG4) at the Kainji power station, increasing the total capacity by 220MW. The project is entirely funded by MESL and is scheduled for completion in December 2026.

During the handover ceremony, Engr. Abdulkadir Gwaram, Chairman of the Project Technical Committee, emphasized the significance of the project in enhancing TCN's power evacuation capabilities.

Engr. Cleber Romao Grisi, Chief Technical Officer of MESL, expressed gratitude for the site access and assured timely project completion.
